The editor of this double page spread uses a specific colour scheme and continues this through both pages, the colour of the artists top matches the title and the subheadings. • Lily Allen is a well known artist and this large picture of her is the main attraction to this page. Her picture dominates the right hand side of the page • The title of this double page spread immediately stands out and the different sizes of the letters attracts the audience to read this magazine. • All of the letters are in capitals and this shows that the artist Lily Allen is putting her point across whether people like it or not.
This double page spread has a serious side to it. The image is a medium shot/close up shot of Lady Gaga and is properly set up you can see this by the pose she is pulling and because of the costume. • On the right hand side of this magazine there are 3 columns full of black text, this would put readers off reading this straight away because of how much text there is, the audience would most likely find this boring. • The editor of Q has placed a large red L behind the text. This makes the article look funky and interesting. Obviously this is unusual but you wouldn’t expect anything less is the article is about Lady Gaga! • Within the text the different sections are differentiated by a large letter starting off the first sentence. This looks really cool and makes the text easily read. Again Q magazine has followed the convention of having the strip at the bottom with the date, website and page number.
The double page spread is an iconic feature in a music magazine as many people look forward to reading what an artist is getting up to or what they do in their spare time. the double page spread here is mainly occupied with a picture of three middle aged men. • The picture of the three men relates to what the magazine is about. The main focus to this double page spread is of a concert that took place at Wembly stadium. The bands that played at this concert were HIIM, Machine Head, Mastodon and the main band featured at the concert, Metallica. • The text on this double page spread is on a black background which is a convention of metal/rock music which is the type of music these bands are based on. • The text is white in colour as it stands out on the black background. • The editor of this magazine uses a lot of different pictures this is because it catches the readers attention. The editor of this magazine only sticks to a certain colour scheme. White red and black work well together and the readers will realise that this is also a rock magazine and both the man with the tattoos and there guitars give this away • The photos on this double page spread were taken from the concert. Having photos within a magazine from a live event gives the reader a sense of the atmosphere from the concert. • The double page spread includes photos of James Hetfield from Metallica and numerous other singers and guitarists from other bands who performed at the concert. The photos show then insensity of the concert as we can see cleary from some of the photos the passion and effort these musicians are putting in. • The text in the middle of the page talks about the concert. This text is larger than the other text on the pages in order to catch the readers eye so that their attention is drawn to the story within the magazine. Machine head is written in bold in order to make the name of the band easy to read for the reader and to grab their attention. This is so fans of the particular band maybe more influence to read the story.
