Presentation of a TPC Resistor-Rod Cooling Solution in the ALICE DCS Presentation based on first URD inputs and test results. Tarek ben Ahmed
Introduction • Two rods per side • Each Rod produces 25W • Temperature stability inside the drift volume 0.1 oC • Closed gas cooling circuit • Cooled by 10m3/h-20m3/h CO2 • CO2 has to be conditioned by heaters
Controls Part • Check starting conditions (also with subsystems) • Control of conditioning process (PLC/PID) • Take action in case of uncontrollable temp. increase • Provide user interface (PVSS II) • Monitor results and status (PVSS II) • Archive results
Control Principle of R-Rod Cooling LAN Fieldbus
Results • 0.4 oC temp. accuracy needed inside the rod to obtain 0.1 oC accuracy in the surrounding gas volume (low transition in gas volume) • SIEMENS OPC server tested successfully • Prototype tests done with SIEMENS S7-300 (only reading and monitoring)
Next Steps • Implementation of conditioning process (PID loop needed => PID self-tuner ?) • Implementation of PVSS II • Investigation of alternative system solutions (SCHNEIDER) • Integration of HV and current monitoring system
