February 2008 Zogby Survey The survey finds the Internet not only outweighs television, radio, and newspapers as the most frequently used and important source for news and information, but Web sites were also cited as more trustworthy than more traditional media sources. 32% - Internet sites are the most trusted source for news and information 22% - Followed by newspapers 21% - Television 15% - Radio *Zogby International is an independent, non-partisan polling firm founded in 1984

What About Security Issues? Michigan Representative Peter Hoekstra was criticized for his recent Tweeting while in the Middle East. Critics felt he was giving away sensitive location information.
How Can It Work? Upside: Virginia Tech shooting Students were using Face Book and Twitter to notify other students and family members to share critical information about their safety. Also used to tell students not to enter dangerous areas. Tweeting between students happened before security/police were on scene.
Social Media is growing in importance Social media will not stand alone but works in concert with other media sources
