    2. Paciente especial ? aquel paciente que posee unas características o condiciones que lo hacen singular frente a lo ordinario y que, por lo tanto, presentan un riesgo probablemente mayor a la hora de una intervención odontológica.

    3. Condiciones del paciente especial 1) Existencia de riesgo medico por padecer un proceso importante. 2) Posible interacción entre el tratamiento dental y el tratamiento especifico de su enfermedad. 3) Dificultad de manejo clínico-odontológico desde el punto de vista de la conducta y de la técnica especifica a utilizar. 4) Existencia de lesiones orales características que hacen más vulnerable al paciente. (Ej. Llagas)

    4. Estimación del riesgo: clasificación de ASA. ASA I: paciente sano. ASA II: enfermedad sistémica sin limitación funcional. ASA III: enfermedad sistémica grave con limitación funcional. ASA IV: enfermedad sistémica grave. Riesgo de vida para el paciente. ASA V: paciente moribundo.

    5. PACIENTES ESPECIALES: Cardiópatas: hipertensión. Nefrópatas: insuficiencia renal crónica. Hepatopatas: insuficiencia hepatica. Problemas respiratorios: asma. Enfermo tiroideo. Diabetico. Embarazadas, niños y ancianos. Personas deficientes o discapacitado
