5. Graduation =Successful completion of: • 22 credits, including specific course requirements • High School & Beyond plan (Advisory) • Culminating Project (senior year) • HSPE-High School Proficiency Exam in Reading & Writing • EOC-End of Course Assessment in Algebra1, Geometry and Biology

6. 22 Required Credits The minimum courses needed for graduation from Capital High School equal 22 credits: • 4 years of English • 3 years of Math • 2 years of Science • 3 years of Social Studies + WA State History (usually completed in middle school) • 1 year of Art • 1 year of Occupational Education • 2 years of Health and Fitness (.5 health & 1.5 fitness) • 6 additional year-long elective courses

7. College Preparatory Requirements • English 4 years • Social Studies 3 years • Math (through Algebra 2) 4 years • Lab Science 2+ years (including chemistry) • World Language 2+ years

Choosing classes / Earning credits Freshman year you will take the following YEAR LONG COURSES and earn 6.00 credits: 1.00 credit 9th grade English 1.00 credit Math (placement determined by MAP test) 1.00 credit Science 1.00 credit Health/Fitness 1.00 credit Elective #1 1.00 credit Elective #2 Electives: Arts, Occupational Education or World Language

MAP (Math Placement) Testing • Test for incoming 9th graders (not necessary for MMS, JMS or Griffin students) • Offered at CHS in Pod B • Bring a pencil, paper and calculator • Please call 596-8027 to sign up for one of the following dates: March 25th at 10:15 (after CHS tour) March 25th at 3:30pm March 26th at 3:30pm

What happens next? • Students turn in packets to 8th grade teacher by March 25th • Attend the CHS visit/tour next Monday (MMS and private) OR Tuesday (JMS & GMS) • MAP Placement Test offered March 25th and 26th at CHS • See the bright pink letter from Mr. Woods with other important dates to place on your calendar! • We look forward to seeing students next week when we will register you for classes.
