  1. Should the United States Have Invaded Iraq in March 2003? Kaylee LaCerda Ken Stivason - advisor Clifferd Chavez - mentor Nan Danehower- teacher

  2. Why I Chose My Topic • Family & friends in the military • Interested in military and war history • Involved in NJROTC • Want to know more about the Iraq War

  3. Research • Hussein was known as a brutal tyrant and abusive leader • President George W. Bush gave Hussein and his two sons a 48- hour time span to leave Iraq • Iraq was believed to have WMDs (weapons of mass destruction) hidden throughout the country

  4. Research • Bush initially refused to go to war with Iraq • Not going to war with Iraq would give them more time to make WMDs • Invasion would also control Al-Qaeda – a powerful, yet dangerous, militant organization

  5. Research • Invasion took place on March 20, 2003 • United States captured Hussein hiding in an eight-foot hole on a farm • President Bush declared the United States victorious on May 1, 2003

  6. Research • Between 95,700 and 104,000 Iraqi civilian deaths • Violence has been gradually reduced in Iraq • Civilians in Iraq are grateful for less tyrant leaders and a more peaceful country

  7. Captain Craig Richters – United States Air Force • Medic that took care of the wounded during war • Agrees with President Bush’s decision -- “I believe he saw something about the future that many people didn’t…He wanted to protect the United States…He wanted to protect the country’s future.” • If we did not invade, “we would have a lot more security issues here at home.”

  8. My product: tri-fold

  9. Difficulties with Project • Trying to find someone to interview • Trying to choose a specific topic • Finding an organization to help send the packages overseas

  10. Successes with Project • Paper was easier to write than expected • Collected much more items than I thought I would • Had a lot of support from people

  11. What I Learned About Myself • Public speaking is not one of my strengths • It is easier for me to work towards a cause I feel strongly about • This project will help me in the future with writing papers in college, and with public speaking

  12. Thank you for your time! Any questions?
