  2. Introduction “The best doctor in the world is a veterinarian. He can’t ask his patients what is the matter– he’s just got to know.” –Will Rogers This quote means a lot to me because when being a veterinarian you need to know about everything possible that could be wrong. While your examining the animal you need to e able to narrow it down to the possibilities of what is actually wrong. It shows that sometimes veterinarians have to use more mental work because there is no asking questions on why the animal is in and what it is feeling.What got me interested in this career is animals and my love for animals since I was little. In order to get a better understanding of a career as a Veterinarian, I will be researching nature of work, working conditions, training qualifications advancement, job outlook/employment, earnings and related occupation .

Nature of Work • Advise animal owners about general care, medical conditions, and treatments • Operate medical equipment such as x-ray machines • Prescribe medication • Examine animals to diagnose their health problems • Euthanize animals • Treat and dress wounds • Test for and vaccinate against diseases

Working Conditions • Physical- Strength to hold down the animals that are more aggressive or squirmy • Mental- to keep your composure and to be focused • Indoor-domestic: working with house hold pets • Outdoor-exotic: working with wild animals (farm, zoo, and jungle animals), working with aquatic animals (killer whales, dolphins, seals)  Work in: Private clinics, travel to farms, outdoors or in laboratories  Working with horses/food animals: must go between their offices and farms or ranches. Work in many different types of weather conditions. Working area may or may not be clean.  Work long hours some nights and weekends and may have to be on call even if it is hours not scheduled  Working in food safety and inspection: must travel processing plants and farms  Research: offices and laboratories spend more time with people instead of animals
