Anesthesiologist Career Cluster: Healthcare Madison Sulflow 5-5-14 Hour 4 Career Technology and Foundation
Introduction “If at first you don't succeed, you're running about average” ~M.H. Alderson. This quote is important because succeeding at everything is practically impossible. If you don’t get a job or cant figure something out you should not think of your self as a failure because you cant achieve everything. I first got introduced to anesthesiology from my dad. He was telling me how it would be cool to make a career out of and he could see me doing that. My whole family works in the medical field so it is kind of a must. I will be researching the salary, work conditions, training you must have, and the employment right now.
Nature of Work • Make sure patient has vital life functions during surgery • Monitor fluid output and input and placing IV’s • Responsible for the patient's care while recovering • Must place a breathing tube in patient’s trachea or “windpipe” • Examine patient, obtain medical history and use diagnostic tests to determine risk during surgical, and obstetrical
Working Conditions • My career is mental. • It is mental because you are just writing information on paper about your patient. The only thing physical about it I guess is when you are giving the patient treatment. • It’s also indoor. • An anesthesiologist is at a hospital on a regular basis. • If I had to take a guess on hours I would say 10-12 a day.
Training, Qualification, Advancement • A undergraduate and medical degree is required. • University of California (San Francisco) is listed as number one in the United States for anesthesiology so hopefully I can get my degree there. • To prepare myself now I will probably look into advanced chemistry and biology.
Job Outlook/Employment • The employment rate is 24% (faster than national average) and rising. • I would like to get job in a city or in a nice state. • Maybe Chicago, Illinois. • There is no particular hospital I'm interested in yet.
Earnings • Medium Salary : 372,722 • My lifestyle goals with this salary would be to have a nice sized house and a family of 4 with some pets. • Backpack Europe or Australia. + • Attend a concert front row at Madison Square Garden. + • Live in Los Angeles or London. +
Related Occupation • Interior Designer • One responsibility is making sure you please and meet all the needs of your customer. • An Associates of arts in interior studies is required. • The employment rate is rising by 13%. • Medium Salary: 23,000.
Conclusion After doing all this research I’m and still very interested in this career. In fact it made me more intrigued. The one thing I look forward to most is just figuring out the correct dosage of anesthetics for the patient. The thing I look forward to the least is placing a breathing tube in a patients trachea. My overall learning experience after making this power point is that it’s a great career to pursue.
