Update on LS1 Activities W.Baldini, N. Bondar, O.Maev, B. Schmidt LS1 Muon Meeting Mar. 27-th 2014
Present Status • Commissioning activities: • Connectivity test on A side DONE, found and fixed a few problems, see the .xls documents on the agenda for all the details • M2-5 stations C-side opened on Monday evening • All 3 nacelles have been moved to the C-side, the one between M4-5 still to be tested for safety • The chamber test setup has been moved as well to the C-side, in the intermediate level balcony • Chambers conditioning: • Conditioning on A side DONE, the setup has been moved to the C-side • HV: • PNPI The hardware is done, Giovanni is working on the upgrade of the projects • CAEN: • A-side: muhva02w-opc is dead (online guys have not fixed it yet…), Oleg managed to turn it ON manually with telnet • C-side: some mess found in the branch controllers after the PS maintenance, fixed by Oleg, Nikolai, Clara, Beat. Now WINCC can control it • C-side M2-5 R1/R2, M1 R2/R4 and part of A-Side slowly ramped up to 2.65kV with no major issues • GAS: Some mess found in the controls after the migration, not fixed yet, Steve is working on that
Present Status (II) • The commissioning week went rather smoothly: • HV was turned on where possible • Muon-DAQ ran smoothly • some issues with the L0-Muon TELL1 • For the next commissioning week (May 5-9) we have to be ready with HV on the whole detector
Next Steps M2R1 M2R2 • Continuing on C-side all the activities: • Grounding improvement: 27 chambers (M2-Front already done) • Ferrite filters on all cables • Fix problematic chambers • We need to increase the FEB-LV on M2-Cside • After LV increase take a new thr. Scan M2R3 M2R4 OFFSET distribution in M2 C-side • For more details as usual you can refer to the e-log: http://lblogbook.cern.ch/MUON/ 4
First Effects of Detector Intervention • Grounding has been improved (wire-connection among the 4 gaps grounds, otherwise rely only on the brass spacers that get loose with time) • All M2/M3 R1/R2 chambers are affected by this issue • Tested and, if needed, changing noisy FEBS • On M2 C-Side the FRONT chambers have been modified while the BACK ones are still untouched • In the next slides there is the comparison FRONT/BACK for the most noise-sensitive parameter: the ENC (RMS of the rate-vs-threshold gaussian)
First Effects of Detector Intervention Improved Improved Not improved Not improved Better separation between anode and Cathode FEBs, and “more gaussian shaped” Less Channels with errors in the fitting procedure Small (but visible) effects, we expect the FEBs to be more stable and insensitive to external noise during data taking
Offset M1 C Side A Side ~ OK: M1AR1,M1CR1 larger distributions…
Offset M2 C Side A Side A Side ~ OK, C Side to be tuned
Offset M3 C Side A Side A Side ~ OK, C Side M3R1 to be tuned
Offset M4 C Side A Side ~ OK both sides, maybe some tail on the high side
Offset M5 C Side A Side ~ OK both sides
