School Improvement Plan… • School Performance Goals • To fully implement the RTI process to support students academic, behavioral, and social needs. • Increase meaningful parental participation to improve student performance on GPS and overall school culture. • Improve teacher preparation and delivery of instruction through PD training and technology integration.
READING DEPARTMENT • Reading Fire from the Rock, by Sharon Draper. Details the integration of public schools (Central HS, Little Rock, AR). • Engaged in “The Great Debate” to help with critical thinking skills. • Using rubrics to score peers on performance.
ENGLISH/LANGUAGE ARTS • Students communicate and self-assess where they are in accordance to standards using the PARKING LOT. • Working on first edition of student newspaper, The Lindley Legend. • Student commentary bulletin boards are posted in class and in hallways.
MATH DEPARTMENT • Steady increase in technology usage. • Math stations/centers are used to differentiate instruction by performance level and learning style. • Post-test data show significant gains. • Math connections is available to assist with remediation.
SCIENCE DEPARTMENT • TechYes Program (Tech Tuesdays) to help with technical and leadership skills. • Engaged in virtual investigations of Earth’s rocks and minerals. • Demonstrations during science class.
SOCIAL STUDIES (& GIFTED) • High evidence of collaboration and student engagement. • Graphic Organizers (visuals) make a significant difference in post-test gains. • Students work in groups and often given a choice of showing mastery of standard based on unique learning style.
FINE ARTS DEPARTMENT • Orchestra, Band, and Chorus getting ready for Winter performance (TBA, December). • Working cooperatively with 7th/8th Grade Academy. • Pebblebrook High School assisting drumline. • High engagement, fun, and lots of energy!
HEALTH/PHYSICAL ED. • Dressing out (almost 100% compliance). • Engaged in conditioning principles to prepare for mastery of the Presidential Fitness Test. • Boys Coach, Reginald Shields • Girls Coach, Jennifer Bradley (has sub)
AVID/STUDY SKILLS • Students made portfolios showcasing who they are. • Community group comes out every Wednesday, to conduct activities. • Students are researching colleges/universities as 6th graders based on their interests.
ART • Student work being displayed throughout school. • Students engage in cooperative learning, learning pairs, and graphic designing to meet visual arts standards. • Lots of energy!!!
GAPSS ANALYSIS • Observed every single classroom in the building twice. • Interviewed all staff members and selected students. • Reviewed all current artifacts. • Will give detailed report to principal on November 4th.
DRESS CODE REMINDERS • Navy Blue and White Tops • Khakis and Navy Blue Bottoms • White, Tan, Navy Blue, Flesh-Colored Tights/Stockings • Winter time approaching, jackets and coats permissible, but should be stored in locker upon arrival to school… Cold-natured students should have on navy blue/white.
