Literary Terms (use at least 4): • Refrain (required) – a regularly repeated word, phrase, line, or group of lines • Allusion – a reference to a well-known person, event, place, literary work, work of art, etc. • Quotation – a passage that is quoted word for word from a book, speech, song, etc. • Humor – writing intended to evoke laughter from the audience • Rhetorical question – a question asked solely to produce an effect or make an point and not to elicit a reply from the audience • Figurative language – writing or speech that is not meant to be taken literally by the audience • Simile – a figure of speech that uses like or as to make a direct comparison between two unlike ideas • Metaphor – a figure of speech in which something is described as something else • Personification – a type of figurative language in which a nonhuman object is given human characteristics • Emotional appeal – an example or reference intended to stimulate the audience’s emotions
Passion • Definition of PASSION • Any powerful or compelling emotion or feeling • A strong or intense feeling • Synonyms • (positive) enthusiasm, dedication, devotion, eagerness, excitement, intensity, joy • (negative) anger, distress, indignation, ire, misery, wrath
