  1. Literacy: Literacy tasks will revolve around our topic work of rainforests. Non- fiction writing will be the main focus, studying instructional texts and writing reports on the animals and plants of the region. We will also be looking at persuasive texts around the subject of deforestation. Roald Dahl’s stories will be sources of imaginative fictional work. Mathematics: Number work will continue to focus on applying mathematics to worded problems and everyday life. We will be looking more into fractions, decimals and percentages and closer to Easter will be extending our number work into algebra. We will also study the properties of quadrilaterals and 3-D shape. SYCAMORE CLASS YEAR6 Curriculum Letter – Spring 14 4x +2y Science: This term we will be looking more at living things and changing materials. Mrs Carter will lead some investigation work associated with the plants and animals of the rainforest and Mr Plant will continue to cover the majority of the work. ICT-The children will be developing research skills and also will focus on a rainforest animation project with Miss Clenshaw. Rainforests: This topic will be central to learning this term. Children will study the location and geography of the different rainforests throughout the world including the animals, plants and people who live there. Art will be linked to our topic and we shall be studying the paintings of Rousseau and making models of rainforests. Music will focus on composition using percussion, rain sticks and drums including those that we aim to make.. PHSE: Going for goals RE: Eternity and the Christian viewpoint PE: Outdoor PE will revolve around tag rugby in preparation for the tournaments later on in the term. Indoor PE will focus on developing gymnastics skills. Homework is set weekly in homework books and is always due in on Thursday. We believe that daily reading is key to all learning and we monitor this very closely so please check your child is recording home reading. Spellings are set weekly and tested on a Monday. All weekly tests are glued into homework books for parents to monitor progress. DT: We are aiming to design and make some musical instruments and look at shelter building linking with the houses used by tribes who live in the rainforests.
