  2. Functions: 1- transportation of respiratory gases. 2- carries metabolites to the excretory organs. 3- body temperature regulation. 4- acid base equilibrium. 5- water balance. 6- blood clotting. 7- carriers for many biological substances.

  3. Physical Properties * Volume: 8% of body weight * S.G: 1060 * Color: bright red Hbo2 - dark red HHb * Composed of: - Cellular elements 45% - Plasma 55% * Viscosity: 5 time than H2O * pH: 7.37 - 7.40

  4. The Plasma Volume: 3 L Composition: a- H2O 90% b- Inorganic constituent 0.9% Na, Cl, Ca, K, etc ………………… c- Organic constituent 9.1% - plasma proteins 7% - nutrient & waste products 2.1%

  5. Plasma proteins: * 7 gm /dL. * Consist of: A. 4.8 gm G. 2.7 gm (A/G ratio 1.7) F. 0.2 gm Proth. 0.02 gm Origin: A, F, proth , G,(α , β) in the liver. G γ in the lymphoid tissues.

  6. Function of plasma proteins: 1- protein metabolism. 2- blood coagulation. 3- immunity. 4- transporter. 5- regulation of blood volume. 6- buffering action. 7- regulation of arterial blood pressure.
