Cleanroom Walls Installed The installation of the cleanroom walls, including the airlock, office and electronics areas was finished a week before Christmas, so floor painting could start.
Electronics area, airlock and platform for pit manager (Dec.)
Floor Painting Done Before Christmas During the last week before Christmas, the cleanroom, electronics room and airlock were painted with antistatic resin suitable for use with airpads. The floor in front of the cleanroom was given a coat of resin (red) so that large loads could be taken with airpads and moved into the airlock without using the crane. The office area floor got a coat of ordinary paint. Electrical outlets and airpad hose rollers are visible.
Floor Protection Pavatex (pressboard) sheets have been laid down to protect the floor during further construction and assembly work.
Work during week of Jan. 8 • Painting (second coat) of exposed structural supports • Installation of internet connectors • Telephones • First few furniture items • Return of unused panels from storage • Test of airpads
Next delivery of Cleanroom Parts • Dagard, the cleanroom supplier will deliver the panels for the roof, the lighting, and the doors and windows (excluding the 6.1m high doors for the airlock entrance and exit) on Monday, January 15. • CMDS, the firm assembling the cleanroom will resume work then.
Areas for STA Integration • STA integration should take place in the part of the cleanroom with removable roof. • Roof panel integration will start in the parts with fixed roof. • The airlock should be reserved for deliveries Airlock STA Integration
Delivery of PSS • The PSS and associated equipment is being shipped from Houston to Luxembourg on Jan. 18 • Personnel from Houston will accompany it to CERN, where it is expected to arrive on the afternoon of Monday, Jan. 22, or the morning of Jan. 23
Handling of PSS • The PSS will be transferred to a low CERN flatbed trailer in building 887 in Prevessin, and then moved to 867 where it will be unloaded and moved into the cleanroom by airpads or the 30T crane • Preparations can then start for STA assembly
Arrival of RAS • The RAS has been shipped air freight from Beijing on Jan. 11. It should arrive in Geneva between the 12th and 14th and be delivered to CERN early next week. • 5 people from Beijing arrive Jan. 15 for its preparation and installation • CERN surveyors will help check the alignment
Arrival of Scaffolding • Scaffolding is scheduled to arrive in Marseille from Beijing on Jan. 15, and then be shipped to CERN
MIT Technicians at CERN • Valentin Vinogradov, Maurice Vergain and Peter Berges are at CERN to help with the integration work. • Maurice Vergain has a crane operator’s license and Valentin Vinogradov has a license for cherry pickers/platforms
Cleanroom 10T Crane • The 10T crane for installation inside the cleanroom is scheduled to be delivered in the last week of January. • It will be installed after STA Pre-integration is completed in early March • Or – the crane will be installed during one shift and the STA Integration will continue on another shift • CERN will arrange a special course (2 days) for AMS personnel to operate 10T cranes at CERN.
Cleanroom Furniture and Tools • Cleanroom furniture (lockable cabinets, tables, chairs, …) is being delivered. It is being stored in the basement of 892 and moved to the cleanroom as needed. • Two rolling toolboxes with assorted metric and inch size tools are scheduled to be delivered the beginning of next week.
