Rural tourism in Lithuania • Rural tourism started in 1997 with only 17 accommodations. 2012 we have 615 providers with sector capacity of over 13000 beds; • LCTA has 385 members rural accommodations uniting aprox. 65 % of RT sector. • Rural tourism is still considered as alternative activity in the countryside;

  3. Safety and Security • Internal for the business and it’s stuff (risk and accident prevention at work place) • Related to security in any aspect for the clients (accidents, sanitary and hygiene, bookings ect)

  4. Who is RT provider in LT? Legal body • Strict control; • Responsible person; • Stuff training; • Special reports; Private person Issues! Safety at work • Self employment license, Farmer, ect; • No or only family member working together • Full liability! • Joint stock company; Small scale • Staff • Limited liability!

  5. How to register RT LT? From 2011 simply fill in the accommodation provider declaration form, sign and submit it to Tourism department at Ministry of Economics…

  6. By signing declaration form accommodation provider confirms that? 1. Provides RT service set out by tourism law (<20 units; <50 beds); 2. Service provided complies with: • Hygiene norm for accommodation providers (common for all) .Hygiene certificate NOT REQUIRIDER! ; • Fire safety requirements; • Construction requirements; • Other requirements for accommodation providers.

  7. S&S and LCTA • Checks RT provider before admitting as a member. (Registered RT; Hygiene norm; reg. with food and veterinary authority…) • Runs classification scheme for RT providers; • Has set out the Guides to good practice for Hygiene for RT Food business operators.

  8. Guides to good practice for Hygiene in RT (1) • Has been approved by National food and veterinary authority; • Substitutes Hazard analysis and critical control points (HACCP) management system; • Can be used by RT food business operators;

  9. Guides to good practice for Hygiene in RT (1) • Main principles of good hygiene practices; • Maintenance program for premises and territory; • Monitoring program for raw materials and consumables; • Equipment maintenance program; • Personnel hygiene maintenance program; • Sanitation program; • Production detention and removal from the market the program; • Internal GGPH implementation verification; • Production of dairy products.

  10. Other S&S actions of LCTA • Issues: • Many different service contracts used by RT; or no service agreement used at all; • Different interpretations of RT service terms and conditions or not used at all Actions: • Setting up Typical service contract for RT; • General terms and conditions for RT services; Work has stuck 
