Lancaster County School District Career Center offers manufacturing-related courses to educate, engage, and empower students in real-world scenarios. Workforce development participation and industry support initiatives aim to address the workforce challenges of tomorrow.

Workforce Development Participation • Engaged a number of our workforce development partners in helping Lancaster County companies find and retain a quality workforce. Information on state and regional workforce training programs, occupational wage rates and opportunities with the county schools and colleges were among the topics presented. • Participated in the SC Works Regional Partnership program, supporting job fair planning and outreach to companies. • Worked with existing businesses and workforce partners to align employee requirements with qualified job seekers to facilitate expansion hiring needs. • Fielded requests for workforce demographic data to assist companies in forecasting their workforce needs and the region’s ability to meet their requirements. • Served on the Catawba Regional Workforce Development Board, Lancaster Workforce Partners and other local workforce teams.
Existing Industry Support • Lancaster Advanced Manufacturing Partnership • Five meetings held in 2018 with the first in May. • Established to address the unique and multiple needs of manufacturers in the county. • 2-SC Corporate Alliance Meetings • Four meetings held in 2018. • Issues discussed included SC-160 construction, workforce development and community improvement issues. • SC 160 Construction Monitoring and Updates • Throughout the year LCDED provided SCDOT updates to Lancaster County businesses in the SC 160 Corridor that would be impacted by the road construction. • 55 updates were sent to these businesses in 2018.
Lancaster County Workforce Initiatives • Social Media Postings • LCDED established the “Golden Opportunities” job posting service for county businesses. • Jobs are posted on the LCDED Facebook Page. • Listing receive a tremendous number of shares and likes. • County Jobs Website • Created a Lancaster County Jobs Website for available manufacturing and professional jobs -- www.lancastercountyscjobs.com. • Officially launched the site in January. • Founders Federal Credit Union is the site’s sponsor.
Lancaster County Workforce Initiatives • Workforce Development Collaboration in Lancaster County • LCDED-Sponsored Career Center Video. • Talent Development Focus Group • First-ever Career Center Faculty Tours of Lancaster County Businesses • Approximately 24 faculty members participated • Total of 9 companies/organizations visited • Partnered with Chamber and Career Center for Career Fair in October • 11 companies participated – all 4 county high schools participated • First-ever Workforce Retention & Recruitment Magazine • Partnership with Chamber, Career Center and LCDED • Highlights county businesses/companies to students—every HS student gets a copy
Lancaster County Workforce Initiatives • Job Fair • First ever manufacturing-only job fair held at USC-Lancaster in December • Job Fair was sponsored by LCDED and SC Works • 9 businesses participated with 47 attendees (41 were from Lancaster County) • Employer feedback was good with quality of applicants being the most positive response • Next Job Fair: June 12th at INSP/CrossRidge
