English • Daily guided reading activities including e-readers • Spelling and handwriting • Explore spy stories by studying the Alex Rider series. • Create an audio-guide for a secret headquarters. • Big Write- weekly independent longer writing • Understanding the Arts • We will be looking at the work of David Hockney and recreating an image based his style • We will study how colour can create mood by producing pictures about the Blitz. • For music we will be following the Music Express scheme and learning songs linked to a positive learning attitude. • Maths • Big Maths- daily focus on key number skills • We will be looking at algebra and creating our own secret codes. • We will be improve our problem solving skills by practical tasks such as Kenken. • We will use Mathletics to hone and develop our skills. • Understanding Physical Development, Health and Well-being • We are learning to develop skills to be used in Basketball • We will be receiving weekly sessions from a Dance coach • PE kits are needed on Wednesdays and Thursdays • Scientific and Technological Understanding • We will design and build different types of circuits. • We will create spy detection devices with alarms, lights and motorswhich will be used to protect our ‘Spy Headquarters’ models. Hockney Class- Year 5/6 Spring Term 2014 ‘I Spy’ • ICT • We will be learning to create an online blog which will enable us to add weekly comment’s to the school’s website. • RE • We are looking at the ways Christians and Buddhists represent stories through art. French We will learn the phrases needed to direct a member of the French resistance around our own village. • Historical, Geographical and Social Understanding • By using research skills, we will find out about the Enigma machine and the role of code breakers in WWII. • We will study the impact of WWII by discussing the role of the UN and Children’s Rights.
