The Dual Course of Study meets the exact core requirements as the College/University Prep, but with one additional component. Students must also take 4 electives from a Career/Technical Pathway out of their required 10 electives. (4 electives would be Career specific and the remaining 6 electives would be general). DUAL is an optional COS for College/University students who choose to take electives from a Career-Specific Pathway.

12. Basic Information for Rising 9th Graders All freshman entering high school in the fall of 2009 and thereafter will participate in the required Core Course of Study, entitled the Future Ready Core Plus; Major difference: Only 24 credits required for graduation (4 less than before).

February– current MP students participated in classroom guidance and were given registration instructions, and a copy of the student’s transcript.
March- registration materials delivered to middle schools for rising 9th graders.
Feb. 21- March 16– Current MP students have scheduled meetings with counselors to discuss and return completed registration cards (through their English class period).
March 28– MP Counselors will be available from 3-6pm in the Art Gallery to register non-CMS students.
March 29 – MP Counselors again will be available from 9am-12noon in the Art Gallery to register non-CMS students.
Late March into April- Registration cards from rising 9th graders will be collected by MPHS counselors.

Provides the student with a basic understanding of the curriculum content

51. Foreign Languages (cont) NC and CMS no longer require Foreign Language to graduate from high school. The NC University System and most universities required a minimum of two years and recommend 3 years of the same language for admission.
52. Foreign Language Rising 9th graders who have taken Level 1 (1A plus 1B) foreign language in the middle school receive a graduation credit. If level 1 is passed and credit is received, the student cannot repeat the course in high school.
