Energy efficient housing: challenge for WWF-NL in 1995 • Housing sector: 10% of national energy consumption • 1,000,000 new houses to be built • Government standard for energy efficiency not very strict • Energy saving potential: 60% • Construction companies hesitant to improve energy efficiency • Construction companies susceptible to endorcement from WWF • Opportunity to show and communicate a solution to climate change

  8. Realization • 1995-2001: 5 example-projects (200 houses) • 1998 – present: 18 follow-up projects (> 10,000 houses) • Many related projects (>50,000 houses)

  9. Follow up: scaling up and phase out WWF involvement A new hallmark: • Similar standard • Separate certification organization • Developed together with housing developers • Commitment: 1500 houses build within 3 years • Endorsement WWF
