  8. Caudillo • Man at the top of the food chain • If in office  president • If not in office  second most important man in country • Power, land, masculinity, and charisma • Defined by their followers

  9. Juan Manuel de Rosas • Argentina, dominated 1829-1852 • Rancher • “Man of the people” • Violence and negotiation

Unit Presentation—due Tuesday 1/18 • “The history of Spanish America during the mid-1800s can be told as a succession of caudillos.” • For your country, you need to research the political scene after the wars of independence • How did the government develop? • Was it more conservative or liberal in nature? • The presentation needs to include: • Timeline of events • Important caudillos and their impact on the country

  11. 5 P’s—how’d we do today? • Punctuality • Preparedness—book, notebook, pencil, etc. • Participation • Presence—are you there and owning it? • Personal responsibility—homework, did you help others, did you make excuses, etc.
