The Tudor Monarchs. When Henry VIII died in 1547, his son Edward VI became king. Edward was only nine years old so his uncle became his advisor. Like his father, Edward was a protestant and wanted England to remain a protestant country. Unfortunately Edward died when he was only 15 in 1553.

Queen Mary I • Mary was a Catholic like her mother and wanted England to be Catholic again. • Mary became Queen in 1553. Her mother was Catherine of Aragon, Henry’s first wife. • She became known as Bloody Mary because she had over 300 protestants executed. ( some were burnt alive!) Liam Buckley

Elizabeth I • Elizabeth succeeded her half sister Mary to the throne. • She became queen in 1558. • England became protestant again. • Elizabeth was a well educated and intelligent queen, she ruled for 45 years to 1603. Liam Buckley
