Gold Performance Acknowledgments • Gold Performance Acknowledgment is based on the percent of students performing at commended levels. • MISD received acknowledgments in Reading/ELA, Writing, and Social Studies.

Did we do better than 2006-2007? • MISD added 4 exemplary campuses this year. • MISD lost 5 recognized campuses only to have them become exemplary. • MISD had 3 more academically acceptable campuses this year than last year. • Overall, the Gold Performance commended areas improved from 44 last year to 57 this year.

What does all of this mean? • MISD TAKS percent passing summed over Grades 3-11 exceeded the State and Region XI average performance levels in reading, writing, mathematics, social studies, and all tests taken. • We are making improvement every year!
Progress on Meeting District Improvement Plan Performance Objectives
Goal One, Objective One – Student Achievement (90% of students will meet State achievement standards.) This objective was not met. However, the AEIS report shows a positive trend in the percent of students meeting State standards. Of the 72 data points measured, 56 were higher in 2008 than in 2007.
The percent of MISD students classified as College Ready is above the State and Region Xl in English-Language Arts and below the State and Region Xl in mathematics. The percent of students at or above the SAT/ACT criterion level was lower than the State and Region XI ACT scores were above the State and below Region XI average performance SAT composite scores were lower than the State and Region XI.
Goal One, Objective Two – Student Attendance (Campuses will achieve Gold Performance Acknowledgement in Attendance.) This objective was met by nine campuses. The acknowledgments include the attendance rate of each student group in addition to the overall attendance rate. Campuses receiving this recognition were: James Coble Middle School Danny Jones Middle School Brooks Wester Middle School J.L. Boren Elementary Cross Timbers Intermediate Mary Orr Intermediate Donna Shepherd Intermediate Della Icenhower Intermediate Mary Lilliard Intermediate Mansfield attendance rates were higher than both the State and Region XI averages.
Goal One, Objective Three – Student Drop-outs (The drop-out rate will be 1%.) This objective was not met. Section 1, page 9 of the AEIS Report indicated the drop-out rate for grades 7-12 was 1.2%, slightly higher than the 1% standard. However, the MISD completion and graduation rates were higher than the State and Region XI average. Additionally, 118 students graduated from our Alternative Education Center during the 2007-2008 school year.
Goal Two, Objective Four – Employee and Staff Recognition (Evaluate the support and recognition given to employees/staff.) This objective was met. Feedback from data compiled in the employee survey (administered in accordance with the 2007-2008 District Improvement Plan) indicates that employees and staff are being recognized for their contributions at all campuses and that recognitions are appreciated. The MISD teacher retention rate is 86.2%. This is higher than the State average of 84.8%Teacher salaries are above the State average in all categories.
Goal Two, Objective Five –Staff Development (Provide quality staff development to meet employee needs.) This objective was met. • All action steps were implemented appropriately. • A District-wide curriculum was completed and revised in all four core academic areas grades 5-12. • Math, science, and social studies curriculum are complete for grades K-12 and the framework, with supporting materials, are posted on the MISD intranet. • The English/Language Arts framework has been removed in response to the State adoption of the new ELA TEKS. Revisions are currently underway.
Goal Three, Objective Six – Parent/Community Involvement (Welcome parental, student, staff and community involvement.) This objective was met. • Ten of eleven action steps were implemented appropriately. The only action step not implemented was 6.10 relating to the use of distance learning labs. • A total of 1,434 parents responded to the 2008 parent survey. Parent responses were generally positive and were forwarded to principals for use in ongoing campus planning.
Goal Four, Objective Seven – Long Range Planning (Implement strategies for long range planning to address growth.) This objective was met. MISD staff, faculty and budget planning have allowed the District to monitor enrollment growth. Staffing waivers were requested related to bilingual instruction in Arabic and Vietnamese.
Goal Five, Objective Eight – Safe and Well-Managed Campuses (Maintain safe and well-managed campuses and school events.) This objective was met. • All thirteen action steps were implemented appropriately. A parent survey was conducted in the spring 2008 to evaluate this and other objectives. A total of 1,434 parents responded, and their responses related to this objective were positive. • The Raptor School Security System was also implemented in the Fall of 2007 and has received positive feedback.
Goal Five, Objective Nine – Cultural Awareness (Maintain an atmosphere in which cultures are valued.) This objective was met. • A parent survey was conducted in the spring 2008 to evaluate this and other objectives. A total of 1,434 parents responded, and their responses related to this objective were positive.
