AgricultureWhat is an animal yoke used for? What do we use today? • An animal yoke is a wooden beam, which is placed in between two oxen to enable them to pull farm equipment behind them. This yoke is called a bow yoke because of the shape of the crosspiece. It is held on the animals' necks by an oxbow, which then transmits force from the animals' shoulders. A pole is attached to the center of the yoke that is then used to drag equipment behind the oxen.
