  3. OBJETIVO • TSW react to cultural information presented in class through discussion. • TSW act out vocabulary words orally in skit format

AGENDA • Topic: ¿De dónde eres? y ¿Cuántos años tienes? • Cinco Minutos: colors and numbers • Teacher Instruction: Powerpoint slideshow to define the new vocabulary on “how old are you”, the pronunciation while providing a visual aid • Guided Practice: Group activity followed by class skit to present ¿De dónde eres? y ¿Cuántos años tienes? • Closure (5-10 minutes) : Continue mini research project in-class if time allows – present on Friday

  5. ¿Cuántos años tienes?How old are you? • In Spanish, you wouldn’t say I AM SIXTEEN YEARS OLD. • Instead, you would say I HAVE sixteen years (my body does). • The verb to have in Spanish is TENER. • To have = tener • Each pronoun gets their own form of the verb “tener,” just like each pronoun got their own form of the verb “to have” (to have = ser) when we said where each person was from.

  6. PRONOUNS • Yo • Tú / Usted • Él • Ella • Nosotros • Ellos • Ellas • Ustedes • I • You informal / formal • He • She • We • They (masculine) • They (femenine) • You (plural form)

  7. Irregular vs. Regular Verbs • In regular verbs, we said that: • For the yo form, the verbs end in –o • For the él/ella form, the verbs end in –a • These rules DO NOT apply to irregular verbs • The verbs to be and to have are IRREGULAR verbs

  8. VERB SER • Yo soy • Tú eres / Usted es • Él / Ella es • Nosotros somos • Ellos / Ellas son • Ustedes son

  9. VERB TENER • Yo tengo • Tú tienes / Usted tiene • Él / Ella tiene • Nosotros tenemos • Ellos / Ellas tienen • Ustedes tienen

  10. ¿Cuántos años tienes? • Ejemplo: Yo tengo veinticinco años (años = years) • Vamos practicar!

  11. ¿De dónde eres?TRANSLATE! • You are from Ecuador. • He is from Bolivia. • They are from Venezuela. • We are from the United States. • I am from China. • You all are from Canada. • She is from Sudan.
