2. Birth and Death • Born in 1460 in Sanservas , Spain • Died in July 1512 in Havana , Cuba • Died at the age of 62 • Was buried in Puerto Rico • Grave stone read :Here rest the bones of a valiant lion, mightier in deeds than name. • He died of wound ( Native American attack).

3. Before His Famous Expedition • Recieved education in fighting , manners, and religion. • Served a knight named Fedro Nunez de Guzman. • Later helped the ten-year conquest of the Muslim Kingdom in southern Spain. • Spent most of the 1500’s in Hispaniola establishing farms. • Was named deputy governor of Hispaniola.

4. His Family • He was married • He had four children • Was in a noble family • Was very poor

Exploration • He explored the coastline of Florida • He named the land for Spain • He searched for gold on neighboring island to the east( said by the Native Americans) • In 1513 he anchored near S.T Johns river • He discovered Bahamas channel • When he got back to Spain he had to establish colonies in Florida.

6. Extra Information • Went to Florida to find riches • Indians showed him Fountain of Youth (in FL) • The Fountain of Youth is supposed to give you life and health for all eternity .
