Egg Osmosis Experiment By Lance Tugade Room 8-73
Purpose • To observe osmosis in a cell • Place eggs in vinegar, to remove shell • Measure weight of the cell using balance • Measure size of the cell using measuring tape • Place one egg in water • Place the other egg in corn syrup • Weigh and measure the eggs again
Hypothesis • Corn Syrup • I think it will weigh more • The size will be bigger • It will look a jelly like oval. • Water • I think it will weigh less • The size will be smaller • Will look like a smaller egg
Materials • Eggs • Beakers • Balance • String • Measuring tape • Vinegar • Corn syrup • Water
Observation #2 • Egg bubbled up • Shell gone became squishy • After 24 hrs beaker became foamy • After the egg sat in water it got fatter • After egg sat in corn syrup egg deflated
Conclusion (Egg in Water) • Got Larger • Water moved in egg • Higher Concentration (water) to Lower Concentration (egg)
Conclusion (Egg in Corn Syrup) • Got Smaller • Water moved out of egg • Higher Concentration (egg) to Lower Concentration (corn syrup)
Conclusion (Hypothesis) • Egg in Water • Wrong • Thought it would be smaller and weigh less and look like a smaller egg • Egg in Corn Syrup • Partly Correct • Thought it would be bigger and weigh less • The only thing was right was that it looked jelly like
