Egg Osmosis Experiment Isabel Gil Dominguez 8-73
Purpose To observe osmosis in a cell • Place egg in vinegar to remove shell • Measure weight of egg using a balance
PURPOSE • Measure size of egg using measuring tape • One egg in water, other egg in corn syrup • Weigh and measure the eggs again
Hypothesis Egg in CORN SYRUP: (weight, size, look like) • Weigh, more • Size, much more • Look, jelly
HYPOTHESIS Egg in WATER: (weight, size, look like) • Weigh, much less • Size, smaller • Look, jelly with plastic cover
Materials • Eggs • Beakers • Balance • String • Measuring tape • Vinegar • Corn syrup • Water
observations • After egg sat in vinegar for 24 hours: • Large amount of foam appeared • No shell • Became squishy and bouncy
observations • Water particles are small • Water went in the egg • Corn syrup particles are big • Water went out of the egg
observations • After egg sat in corn syrup for 24 hours: • Looked dented • Deflated • Smaller • Cover is thinner
Conclusion Egg in Water Egg in Corn Syrup
Conclusion The egg in the water got larger because: • Water moved into the egg • Egg had lower concentration of water • Water moved higher concentration (water) to lower concentration (egg)
Conclusion • The egg in corn syrup got smaller because: • Water moved out of the egg • Egg had higher concentration of water • Water moved from higher concentration (egg) to lower concentration (corn syrup)
Conclusion • My hypothesis is incorrect because: Water Egg • Weight- wrong • Size- wrong • Appearance- wrong Corn Syrup Egg • Weight- wrong • Size- wrong • Appearance- wrong
