Egg Osmosis Experiment Janessa Peters 8-14
Purpose • To observe osmosis in a cell. • Put egg in vinegar • Measure weight of egg • Measure size of egg
Purpose 2 • Put one egg in water • Put other egg in corn syrup • Weight and measure both eggs
Hypothesis • Water Egg : It will get larger • It will be heavier • Corn Syrup egg : It will get bigger • It will be heavier
Materials • Vinegar • Water • Corn syrup • String • 2 eggs • Measuring tape • Balance • 2 beakers
Observations • 1. bubbles come up from the egg • 2. eggs are now floating, there is white foam (after 2 hours) • 3. after 24 hours shell is soft, jelly like, and squishy • 4. corn syrup egg looks soft after 2 days, soggy and brownish.
Conclusion : Water Egg ~ Water Egg : Larger ~ Water : Higher ~ Egg : Lower ~ Water goes from high to low SIZE = right WEIGHT = right LOOKS = right
Conclusion : Corn Syrup Egg • Corn Syrup Egg : Smaller • Corn Syrup : Low • Egg : High • Goes high to low • SIZE = wrong • WEIGHT = wrong • LOOK = right
