Egg Osmosis Experiment Irena Tonnu 8-14
Purpose • To observe osmosis in a cell • 1) Place eggs in vinegar • 2) Measure the weight of the egg
Purpose • 3) Measure the size of the egg • 4) Place one egg in water and one egg in corn syrup • 5) Weigh and measure egg
Hypothesis Corn Syrup Egg • The weight is going to be lighter • The size is going to be smaller • Its going to look a little bit brown and yellow
Hypothesis Water Egg • The weight is going to be heavier • The size is going to be bigger • It’s going to look the same
Materials • Vinegar • Corn syrup • 2 eggs
Materials • Measuring tape and string • Water • 2 beakers • Balance
Observations Vinegar Egg (After 24 hours) Corn Syrup Egg (After 48 hours) Water Egg (After 48 hours)
Observations • 1) bubbles coming out of egg • 2) after 24hrs white foam is on top of the water • 3) the skin is gone and feels soft, jelly like • 4) eggs got larger from sitting in water for 2 days • 5) water egg got larger, syrup egg got smaller
Conclusion Corn Syrup Egg • Egg got smaller • Water left egg • Water moved from high to low concentration (osmosis)
Conclusion Water Egg • Water egg got larger • Water entered egg • Water moved from high to low concentration (osmosis)
Conclusion (Hypothesis) Corn Syrup Egg • Weight- right, I thought it would weight more • Size- right, I though it would be smaller • Looks- right, I thought it would a bit yellow
Conclusion (Hypothesis) Water Egg • Weight- right, I thought it would weigh more • Size- right, I thought it would be larger • Looks- wrong, I thought it would look the same
