High Level Goals • Long term goals (3-5 years) • Overall goal: Nurtureand sustain a pool of world-class scientific talents • Improve the quality of science projects by building the capability of schools to nurture the culture of science research • Enable students to build on and continue science research done by previous students • Support research projects with potential for commercial applications, and/or contribution to the growth of knowledge • Short term goals (1-2 years) • Formalize collaboration between the Department of Education, the Department of Science and Technology (and other relevant parties) on an Integrated Science and Math Education Plan • Identify, document and scale up best practices in science research in high school. In particular, by starting a process where successful schools/universities can mentor other schools in their area (twinning then clustering) • For the Philippine Science High School System, synchronize campusfairs’ schedules to be able to get more students to compete for place in Intel ISEF • Develop an Intel Philippine Science Fair website as an online resource, e.g. for a databank of mentors/experts, support institutions and documented best practices • Ensure the improvement of quality assurance system for science projects • Establish a tracking system includingindicators with respect to the overall goal
Desired Results • Quality of projects improved – zero disqualifications at the national-level review • Quantity of science research • Schedule of science fairs synchronized or adjusted to meet Intel ISEF timeline • Integrated Science and Math Education Plan adopted at the national level • Culture of science research adopted – number of schools able to engage students in science research • Best practices shared and scaled up in regions
