Europe’s View of Colonies • The colonies were not a part of Europe it was just a place to trade, sell, and to plant crops • People sent the extra items back to Europe for free • Colonists escaped to America so they wouldn’t be sent to jail when they were supposed to.
Colonies View of Europe • Colonies were controlled by governors • Most colonists were born in the colonies and have never been Europe • Some restrictions didn’t let the colonists trade or vote because of Europe.
Stamp Act • Every time they used paper for anything they would have to pay taxes and put a special stamp on it • They did this because England could not afford military expenses • This occurred on March 22,1765 • The colonists were angry so they started to boycott against paper use • Parliament stopped the Stamp act because of boycotting
Tea Act • The colonists could only buy tea from the East Indian tea company • Put other tea companies out of businessmaking tea makers lose money to provide for their families • Colonists were fed up with all the taxes • So that led up to the Boston Tea Party • This occurred in 1773
Intolerable Acts • Impartial Administration of Justice Act: which allowed the royal governor of a colony to move trials to other colonies or England if he was nervous that juries in those colonies wouldn’t judge fairly • Massachusetts Bay Regulating Act: this act made all law officers subject to appointment by the royal governor of a colony to move and banned all town meetings that didn’t have an approval of the royal governor • Boston Port Act: This act closed of Boston until the price of dumped tea was recovered , moved the capital of Massachusetts to Salem.
Intolerable Acts (continued) • Quartering Act: which allowed British troops to live with the colonists. The colonists had to provide food, bedding, supplies and much more. • Quebec Act: which granted the civil government and religious freedom to Catholics living in Quebec • The colonists were angrier than before, some kicked the soldiers out of there house • This all happened in 1774.
Boston Massacre • The colonists got angry about the new taxes • 5 people were killed in this massacre • The colonists were throwing snowballs, trash and ice • This massacre occurred July 4th,1770
Boston Tea Party • Colonists were angered by the tax on everything, especially tea. • The colonists could only buy tea from the East Indian Company from England. • This put a lot of tea makers out of business • The colonists dressed up as Mohawk Indians and snuck on boats and dumped 342 crates of tea in the Boston Harbor • The Boston harbor was closed down after this, so people couldn’t get the shipped goods they needed • Other colonies helped Mass. Buy sending money, food, and more supplies • This occurred near christmas
