Standards and Benchmarks ART.I.VA.HS.1 Apply materials, techniques, media technology, and processes with sufficient skill, confidence, and sensitivity that personal intentions are carried out in artworks. ART.I.VA.HS.2 Intentionally use art material and tools effectively to communicate ideas. ART.I.VA.HS.3 Apply organizational principles and functions to solve specific visual arts problems. ART.I.VA.HS.4 Be involved in the process and presentation of a final product or exhibit. ART.II.VA.HS.1 Apply materials, techniques, and processes with sufficient skill, confidence, and sensitivity that personal intentions are carried out in artworks. ART.II.VA.HS.2 Create artworks that use organizational principles and functions to solve specific visual arts problems. ART.II.VA.HS.4 Apply and adapt subjects, symbols, and creative ideas in artworks and use the skills gained to solve problems in daily life. ART.II.VA.HS.5 Demonstrate an improved ability to integrate structures, characteristics and principles to accomplish commercial, personal, communal, or other purposes of art. ART.II.VA.HS.6 Create media productions that demonstrate knowledge, contexts, values, and aesthetics. ART.III.VA.HS.1 Analyze the effectiveness of selections in communicating ideas and reflect upon the effectiveness of choices. ART.III.VA.HS.2 Identify intentions of artists, explore the implications of various purposes, and justify analyses of purposes in particular works. ART.III.VA.HS.3 Describe how expressive features and organizational principles cause responses. ART.III.VA.HS.4 Reflect upon the characteristics and assess the merits of one’s personal artwork. ART.III.VA.HS.5 Reflect and analyze the personal experiences that influence the development of personal artwork. ART.V.VA.HS.1 Speculate and analyze how future technologies may impact art in everyday life. ART.V.VA.HS.2 Describe the characteristics of a variety of visual arts careers. ART.V.VA.HS.3 Compare the materials, technologies, techniques, and processes of the visual arts with those of other arts disciplines as they are used in creating and types of analysis.

Agenda • Create a blog to help document experience • Research the history of the hat • Production of hat using mixed media • Critique your own hat • What was the artist thinking? • What was your biggest success? • What was your biggest struggle? • Constructively criticize three other hats • What were the artists thinking? • What was their biggest success? • Where could they have improved? • Speculation and Analysis • How do you think future technologies, such as blogs, may impact art in everyday life? • What arts careers would find this type of technology useful?

Create a Blogger Account • Create a Google account if you do not already have one. • https://accounts.google.com/SignUp?service=mail&continue=http%3A%2F%2Fmail.google.com%2Fmail%2F&ltmpl=default • Follow the prompts to set up your account • chinksonartclass@gmail.com • Create a Blogger Account • Sign in to Google Account • Under [More] tab select Blogger • Follow the prompts to set up your account

  5. Blog • Click [New Blog] tab on left of screen. • Use Simple Blog Template • Title-(Name)’s Hat Experience. • Example – Mrs. Hinkson’s Hat Experience • Blogger Address-In all lower case type the title without any spaces or punctuation. • Example – mrshinksonshatexperience

  6. Blog Settings • At center of screen push on tab with down arrow. • Select settings • Under the privacy heading select [Edit] • Select No under both questions and save changes.

  7. Blog Settings Continued • Beside Blog Readers Heading select [Edit] • Select Only These Readers and click [Save Changes] • We will add each other’s Google addresses at a later date.

  8. Posting • At the conclusion of each class period I would like you to blog at least three sentences about your experience that day. • Questions you may ask yourself during the blogging process- • What design interests me the most? • What materials are best suited to the style of hat I am trying to create? • What was my biggest success? • What was my biggest struggle? • What do I wish I would have done differently? • Should I have thought my design out further? • On the left hand side of your blog screen click [New Post]. • You may add pictures or video to enhance your post. • Click [Publish] to submit your post.

  9. Research • Use the web to research the history of the hat. • Here are a couple of the many resources available • http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hat • http://www.hatsuk.com/hatsuk/hatsukhtml/bible/history.htm

  10. Design • From your research design a hat of your own creation using mixed media materials. • Include at least one picture of sketch(es) in your blog. • Work with at least one other student to form a plaster cast of your head as a foundation for building your hat.
