Contemporary Art: Art produced at the present period of time. • Lines of Symmetry: Imaginary lines on the face that show us where to place facial features. • Layer: Slowly building up pencil pigment to increase the tone of a color. • Blend: A gentle and gradual transition from one color to another. • Burnish: Applying heavy layers of pencil until smooth, shiny surface is created. Primary Color: Colors that cannot be made by mixing. • Secondary Color: Colors that are made by mixing 2 primary colors. • Tertiary Color: Colors that are made by mixing a primary color with a secondary color. • Tint: Color with white added to it, used to make a color lighter. • Shade: Color with black added to it, used to make a color darker. Week 4
Warm Colors: Colors that make you think of heat. • Cool Colors: Colors that give the feeling of coldness. • Complementary: Colors that are opposite each other on the color wheel that appear brighter when next to each other, but neutralize when mixed. • Analogous: 3 colors that are next to each other on the color wheel. • Monochromatic: A color scheme that uses several values of one color. • Color Scheme: A plan for using color.
