  2. Project Number 2413 • Project Outline: • To raise money for the purchase of Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) for the Limestone District School Board (LDSB) secondary schools or out lying elementary schools. • These AEDs will be accessible for Public Access Defibrillation (PAD).

  3. Limestone District School Board

  4. Limestone District School Board We proudly serve approximately 22,200 students at 55 elementary schools, 11 secondary schools, and Limestone Community Education Centres in the Townships of Central Frontenac, Addington Highlands, North Frontenac, South Frontenac, Loyalist and Stone Mills, as well as the Town of Greater Napanee, the City of Kingston and the Frontenac Islands.

  5. Community Centres • Schools in the LDSB house many community based events which can be large sporting events, or small gatherings such as Girl Guides or even church. • Benefits of this project would be to the community at large, as the AEDs would be accessible to all who use the school

Napanee District Secondary School Automated External Defibrillators have been placed as part of pilot program, and with support from area municipalities, at Ernestown SS, Sydneham HS School and Napanee District SS. Sharbot Lake HS has been awarded a medtronic AED from Scott Reid, MPP, Trillium Foundation, the ACT Foundation, and the Mikey Foundation

  7. Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) andAutomated External Defibrillation (AED) • Clinical death occurs when the heart stops. It is reversible. • CPR keeps oxygen-rich blood circulating throughout the body. • AED can deliver a shock to re-establish an effective rhythm. Quick defibrillation greatly increases chances of survival.

  8. Automated External Defibrillators(AEDs) Survival rate decreases 7% to 10% with each minute there is a delay Defibrillation combined with CPR, is the key treatment in more than 80% of all sudden cardiac arrest victims

  9. Using an AED When using an AED: • Turn on the machine • Follow the diagrams to place the pads • Use the age appropriate pads • Follow the voice prompts! No one touch the person. When shocking, state, “I’m clear, you’re clear, everybody’s clear.”
