Exterior Photo Community Environment: The Clark County School District and Vegas PBS joint venture, the Vegas PBS Educational Technology Campus is a model for the green building process and public/private partnership. The prime objective of the project was to construct an integrated facility providing seamless interaction between both institutions and allowing the electronic distribution of educational tools. The result is a LEED Gold Certified , 108,000 square foot building that is home to Clark County School Districts’ Virtual High School, a homeland security and emergency response hub, and the first TV station in the United States built to meet both LEED standards and Media Security and Reliability Council security guidelines.
Interior Photo – Virtual Lab Learning Environment: The building is home to Clark County School District’s Virtual High School, which broadcasts classes to 5,000 students and serves as a central location for up to 200 students and 40 faculty members. The building offers classrooms with computer-instruction stations, a science laboratory with broadcasting capabilities, four mini-studios designed to create educational courses, and an advanced technology hub for the entire school district. This interface produces live classroom instruction which can be distributed live throughout the district and recorded for future district wide viewing.
Exterior Photo Physical Environment: The campus is LEED Gold Certified. 202 Geothermal wells installed below ground will keep water temperatures going in and out of the cooling towers at a 55 degree ambient temperature. The lead free electrical control systems have been designed to minimize power consumption and mechanical equipment has been designed with intricate controls and the highest efficiency ratings. Outside lighting is being transmitted into the building using SolaTube skylights throughout the roof. The 180 KWDC photovoltaic system installed on the roof will produce 17.5% of energy demand. Additional features ensure that the campus will have an average energy savings 35 percent below current Clark County building codes.
Interior Photo - Lobby Planning Process: The Clark County School District and Vegas PBS worked together representing the Virtual High School and the Public Broadcasting Stations’ interest. The planning process of the two agencies created an unique business model for public/private partnerships. The partnership has allowed the flexibility to meet and exceed expectations for higher education, private sector and the public sector. In order to manage the process of this complicated project CCSD assigned one of their own project managers to facilitate dialogue with all parties, including the contractor Martin-Harris Construction. The design and construction process was recorded by Vegas PBS forming the backbone of a future six part documentary to be aired on Public Broadcasting Stations.
