LBT Q4 2008 Engineering and Software Review MCS Mount Control System
Highlights (Q4/2008) Fixed Jet’s CPU instability (up for 51 days) Greatly improved mount slew performance Fixed several low-level bugs Updated elevation and azimuth tuning Wrote a lot of new low-level control code Upgraded to PLCIO rev. 4 LBT Q4 2008 Engineering and Software Review
Progress (Q4/2008) • Identify and correct the source of the host CPU instability (Issues 869, 1626, 1734, 1750) √ • Consolidate Az and El DSP code and check it into svn (s) (some progress) • Update FPGA code and check it into svn (not yet) • Improve slewing efficiency (Issue 1728) √ • Improve Host-to-DSP synchronization (Issues 891, 1460) √ • Fix absolute encoders (end-run for Issues 220, 362, 511, 1230) (not yet) LBT Q4 2008 Engineering and Software Review
Progress (Q4/2008) LBT Q4 2008 Engineering and Software Review
Open Issues • Technical • Encoder reset is not sufficiently reliable (Hardware) • Drive startup is not reliable (TPLC) • A lot of cleanup / development is required before commissioning • Schedule • Telescope time is very competitive • Financial • Significant upgrades are unfunded for this year • Resource • Very limited Engineering / Software resources for further development LBT Q4 2008 Engineering and Software Review
Planning (Q1/2009) • Consolidate Az and El DSP code and check it into svn • Update FPGA code and check it into svn • Fix absolute encoders (end-run for Issues 220, 362, 511, 1230) • Add telemetry subsystem support • Some testing time scheduled in February LBT Q4 2008 Engineering and Software Review
