Site License Advisory Team May 30, 2014 meeting
Agenda • Insight and Microsoft • Discussion of reseller issues • Microsoft renewal and iPad apps • Renewals • xWin • Nvivo (and for Mac) • SPSS • MATLAB • Adobe Creative Cloud
Insight/Microsoft Reseller Discussion • The IUC called Insight and Microsoft in for a meeting • A document regarding performance and management was provided by the IUC to both areas • Both Insight and MS brought management • Discussed several issues
Insight/Microsoft Reseller Issues • Discussed: • Staffing concerns • Response rates • Expertise issues (particularly with Office 365) • Quote competency (inaccurate quotes, failure to understand technical needs) • Lack of online ordering • Issues with timely pricelist releases
Insight/Microsoft Reseller Response • Insight provided a number of resolutions: • They have increased the staffing on our account, and are seeking to hire two more Software Sales Specialists. • Additionally, three part-time licensing specialists have joined the team full time. • Workload has been reduced for Insight’s reps: • Public Safety, private institutions, etc. have been removed from this team’s responsibility
Insight/Microsoft Reseller Response • Ordering portal • Tentative ordering portal date for OSU due in August • Until then, a new July pricelist will become available • We discussed methods of simplifying the portal to make it more accessible • For quotes: the IUC ordering email will be staffed by an additional full-time staff member
Insight/Microsoft Reseller Response • Knowledge Improvements • The move of part-time licensing specialists to full time on this team will provide easier access to knowledge (moving from one part time to three full time positions) • Microsoft-sponsored training for Insight is in the works • Additional sales specialists will be required to have an understanding of MS Licensing in education
Microsoft Renewal • Basic agreement remains the same • Win upgrades, Office, CoreCAL, ECAL, and all current servers remain on the list • If you have a departmental agreement (Proj/Visio, RDS Cals, etc.), those renew as well. • PO’s to be cut on or near June 13: we will be driving Insight to update quotes
Microsoft Renewal • No per-FTE pricing changes this year • The original agreement had a price increase • The release of Office 365 to students brought us back to the bargaining table • This accounts for university-wide savings of roughly $54,000 over contracted pricing for the next fiscal year
Office for iPad • OCIO continues to work on this. Issues have involved licensing and contracts • These issues will be worked out by June 30, or earlier (all licensing/contract issues are being wrapped into the renewal) • Technological issues are being resolved at this time • Students remain the top priority. Faculty and staff will require an additional cost
Office365 and OneDrive • Announcement yesterday of OneDrive (formerly SkyDrive) being updated from 25GB to 1TB for O365 Education users • OCIO reviewed the policy on this with Microsoft in light of our needs • Student Advantage users and all O365 users are eligible now • Like O365, students are the top priority. We will work on contract issues around this as well.
Renewals • xWin32 • Renewal completed; a request in Self Service will produce a new license code • NVivo • Renewals on June 1, 2014 • NVivo for Mac expected out in June • SPSS • Renewals on July 1, 2014 • MATLAB • Renews on August 30, 2014
Adobe • Adobe brought a new pricing option to the table in early January. • IUC has received a counter-counter offer • OSU is in discussion with other Ohio Schools and the Board of Regents regarding pricing and our needs • Target date is still June 30 for OSU
Questions/Comments • Next meeting June 30, 2014, 10 AM • Location to be announced
