LBT Q3 2007 Engineering Review HBSC Hydrostatic Bearing System
Highlights (Q3/2007) • WinCC (engineering diagnostic) can log data • All 8 lateral pads modified to reduce oil consumption, and installed LBT Q3 2007 Engineering Review
Open Issues • Technical • PLC Control law unknown, undocumented. • Firewall not penetrable for WinCC • Capillaries not installed in El and Az pads • Capilaries uncharacterized/adjusted • Schedule • None • Financial • None • Resource • Mountain support pacing operation • Network and Firewall communications issues unresolved LBT Q3 2007 Engineering Review
Progress (Q3/2007) • WinCC (engineering diagnostic) running and capable of datalogging • NRAO modified 7 pads in their shop across street • All modified lateral pads have been reinstalled • Capilaries installed on all 8 laterals, LBT Q3 2007 Engineering Review
Planning (Q3/2007) • Move the El and Az capillaries to the pads and resize • Systematic measurement of lift, tuning system to maximize stiffness • Replace hoses with hard pipe on level 5 • Document existing S7 code with a process flowchart (VoltsDC) • Describe new control laws correcting: • pressure OK • system shutdown when pocket pressures fail • control around pressure, not lookup table (LBT) • Rewrite PLC code using new control laws (VoltsDC) • Reduce system pressure from 120 to 95 bar.
