PIP Update June 18th 2014
Agenda • Summary Update • Current Activities/Updates • Reid, Slabaugh
Update • Linac SBK: Working on gallery and working towards CDR (in June, July) • Linac LN: Work continues on optical cavity/vacuum chamber, understand the non-linear instability seen in the fiber amplifier, working with PriTel on a solution • Modulator work: Build up of 25 cell – (still communicating with SLAC – finishing up some details), Issue with cap from pulsing/testing • Linac Beam Physics: No news • Injector: Testing larger volume source in test stand, Gas Testing and notch in cathode did show improvement in flatness can be obtained • Booster Beam: • Transverse damper – still need to change ACNET software for ease of use and • Cogging software work continues – have been able to run on new system but working on transition – Kiyomi at IPAC • Booster optics software – New tune control works (problem in database fixed) moving on to higher intensities • Booster Longitudinal dampers - • Booster RF • Booster RF5 has had downstream window cut off…(update talk today) • RF13 – Is finishing mill work today then start re-assemble (update talk today) • Perpendicular Cavities –proceeding with testing of new ferrites – waiting for delivery • Built the first new tuner – will go on RF13 • Cavity 20 – no longer going to have new tuner, (update talk today) • Booster Anode Supplies – Talk next week, but several pieces still have no vendor or delivery date • Booster Bias supplies – Third supply delivered to MI-60 and starting dis-assembly work (Monday), Bias 1 in test stand, Bias 2 waiting TS • Booster Shielding – Safety Going over data…. • Booster BPM work – 1. made measurements at BPM H1 and saw reflections which are caused by the ion clearing box, instead of the doublet you are getting multiple waveforms out of the BPM.2. working on identifying what elements of the bpm measurements are beam driven and what is imposedby the bpm system on the measurements. The impact of this is how the basic measurements can be modified or met by the future bpm system. 3. continued design of transition board, have a 201MHz and a 37.9-53 MHz signal path 4. preparing presentation for June 25thBooster Nothcer– Pulsing long kicker in tunnel (on floor) on new system • Getting running time in on new system – did have a problem with supply but is fixed now • Like to connect three loads in gallery to ensure it can work for 700 MeV notching • Working on modifications to Short 12 spool piece and secondary absorber (reduce loses on surface)
RF 5 removed for repair Cavity RF 2 being rebuilt (fixed window) Cavity RF 5 (Replacing taper/window) • Cavities Refurbishment • 10 of 19 cavities have been refurbished
Recent PIP Budget/News • Budget Issues: • Submitted labor request for FY15 yesterday (will need re-work!) • General: P5 report out – PIP II is the plan • Setting up meeting to discuss transition PIP to PIP II • PMG – Paul Derwent is setting up for Sergei • Lots of shutdown talk – Regular SD planning • Update of RLS – Some Booster items remain • Director is interested in 20 Hz – Todd gave talk at PIP II • Post-Doc position for PIP – Two candidates being considered
Upcoming Talks Future Meetings to be Scheduled: • Peter/Craig – New Booster BPM Plan • Ryan Crawford – Anode Supply Update • Matt/John – New Tuner • Kiyomi Seiya - Cogging • Tom Kubicki – New Booster Cavity Plan • Bill Pellico - Loss Scans and Shielding Assessment • John Reid - Solid State Installation - Final Report
