Site License Advisory Team June 30, 2015 meeting
Agenda • Microsoft Renewal • FY16-18 Agreement • New Features, Held Pricing • Windows 10 Plans • Adobe Creative Cloud 2015 Release • Upcoming Renewals • ExamSoft • Articulate Discount • FY16 projects: Blackboard, Adobe DPS, SLS Chargeback Process
Microsoft Chargeback FY15 • Chargebacks have been issued for the Microsoft products by FTE • Other chargebacks were also reported out • We’ll be improving this process in FY16, and expect MS and Adobe charges to come back earlier in the Fiscal Year.
Microsoft Renewal • Microsoft has offered the IUC a price-freeze on years 3-5 on our license • Total savings & value for OSU: $2.2m over 3 years • Total IUC savings: about $5 million • Deal also includes Office 365 E3 and MDOP at no charge • String attached: • Azure purchase: $200k total commit each year, from the entire IUC
Microsoft RenewalSavings Picture • Year-over-year savings on just the core bundle: • FY16: 7.45% ($140,152.54) • FY17: 11.78% ($232,496.16) • FY18: 16.09% ($333,872.84) • Total 3-year savings on only core products: $706,521.54
Windows 10 • Initial release is July 29. • Once the download is tested and installed, we will roll it out for SLSC’s • Should be available by the July 31 meeting, if the Enterprise release comes out when the consumer version does. • In-place upgrades are on the way for Windows Enterprise Editions • Currently, you need to essentially reimage a machine to go from Windows 8 Enterprise to Windows 8.1 Enterprise • At Ignite, Microsoft showed an upgrade from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10 without completely re-installing • Caveat: this process required Azure services
Microsoft RenewalAzure Purchases • The IUC made a commitment to purchase $200k of Azure with this deal • OSU purchased $60k of the total $200k commitment • This is to secure pricing and discounts. Azure will still require a security assessment for use • If you have any interest in a StoreSimple device, please contact me at dangler.8@osu.edu
Microsoft RenewalPossible Risks: Resolved • All schools provided their Azure commits • All schools got PO’s in • Agreement was amended and resolved
Adobe CC 2015 Release • Released Tues., June 16. • You will have to go into Creative Cloud Packager and build a new package with the newest apps. • The new package will install the CC 2015 apps ON TOP OF the older versions. • Unlike CS6 to CC, where CS6 items remained on the machine unless you removed them. • User-installed and administered (desktop app) versions have the option to change this setting under advanced options
Adobe CC 2015 Release • New apps, even on serialized installations, appear to update as trials. • Run the serialization process again (doesn’t need to be re-built) to re-serialize these products • If you are building DPS folios, you MUST keep CC 2014 because the DPS Tools are not part of the CC 2015 version and are not compatible.
Renewals: NVivo • 150 seats to be renewed • Initial quote was an 8% increase • Negotiated to a 0% increase • No expected pricing changes • Codes expected in early July • OCIO’s current key is set to expire on the 20th July 2015. • Working with vendor now
Renewals: SPSS • SPSS: • Renewal order will be placed next week • Pricing increase now expected • Originally, this was a 15% increase • It’s currently an 8% increase • We continue to negotiate • Licenses will expire on July 30, hard fail on August 30
Renewals: MATLAB • Purchasing is intending to renew this as-is at this time • Quote for renewal should arrive this week for our August 1 renewal • There is discussion among the IUC to look at a larger deal
Renewals: Other • xWin32 • Renewal in place • PowerTerm • Renewed, no change • Parallels • Pricing changes under discussion • Minitab • Renews August 30, expected on time.
New Contracted Discount:Articulate • Articulate Storyline 2 designs interactive e-learning courses, allowing the authoring of quizzes, courses, and software simulations. • http://www.articulate.com/products/storyline-top-features.php • Contract covers terms issues and provides 60% off with PCard purchase: use code “OSUAPORA” on the order. • Questions? OSU Rep: Andrea Porter at aporter@articulate.com or 800-861-4880 ext 106
Possible Site License: ExamSoft • An assessment solution designed to provide both faculty and student feedback. • The product also interface with Carmen • OSU has a master purchasing contract in place, but we are examining this as a site license now. Currently: • Departments are getting different packages • No Shibboleth integration • Areas are looking to expand • Professional/Graduate schools pay different rates than undergrad departments • Departments are doing their own schedules and NDA
Upcoming Projects for OSU Purchasing on the IT Front • Blackboard • Original contract indicated a “cap” of 10% on increases • We will be preparing to bid this or re-negotiate the pricing in FY16 • Adobe DPS • OSU has a reasonable need for this product. We will be looking for partners in early FY16 (and we already know some of you). • SLS Chargebacks • We want to improve this system: no one wants more surprises, and everyone wants this fully funded. Goal to have sustainable funding model when FY17 starts
Questions/Comments • Next meetings • July 31, 10 AM, location TBD • April 27, 2016 is the third annual IT & eStores Vendor Expo • For SLS Questions, copy software@osu.edu with any correspondence
