  2. Project #4: Storm Chasers • Students will research about the force five: hurricanes, floods, blizzards, tornadoes, and drought. All of this weather impacts communities in different ways. We will research how these storms form, what regions are most likely to be impacted, and how people can stay safe in adverse weather conditions. We will also continue looking at mapping skills and geography, and labeling diagrams and text features in non-fiction text. The students will also be in literature circles reading I survived: Hurricane Katrina 2005. Project Topics How does weather impact our community? Geography Map Skills Diagrams/Text Features Compare and Contrast weather systems Public Service Announcement Simple Research Report Non fiction text

Solar System Reading Connections • Standards & Skills • L.A.: 3.3.1 • Science: 3.3.5 • Summarizing • Comprehension • Vocabulary Noise Level 2 Monday – Wednesday Read The Planets in Our Solar System pg 228 – 247 with your literature circle. As you read be sure to work on completing your study guide. Thursday Choose a guided reader to read with a partner. Your choices are What’s in the Sky, The International Space Station, Exploring Space. As you read work to complete your thinking map to identify the main idea and supporting details.   4. Noise Level 0-1 Monday - Wednesday With your book club create a foldable sharing Main Idea and Details about each chapter in your book. Option A: The foldable should have a flap for each chapter. On the front of the flap draw a picture that shows the main events, under the flap write bullet points about the details that occurred in the chapter Option B: Fold your paper into the number of characters that were in the text. Draw a picture that shows what the character looked like and on the back side character traits about each with details from the story that support your character traits.   5. Working with Words Noise Level 1 Monday Choose 4 of your vocabulary words to look up in the dictionary and write their definitions on your answer sheet. THEN use each word in a sentence. Vocabulary words to choose from: solar system, easily, farther, main, dim, temperatures, telescope, probably.
