LBT Q1 2009 Engineering and Software Review MCS Mount Control System
Highlights (Q1/2009) Fixed azimuth and elevation absolute encoders GPS failed Refined Azimuth encoder scale Damaged left elevation encoder tape LBT Q1 2009 Engineering and Software Review
Progress (Q1/2009) • Consolidate Az and El DSP code and check it into svn (√ partial) • Update FPGA code and check it into svn (√ partial) • Fix absolute encoders (end-run for Issues 220, 362, 511, 1230) √ • Add telemetry subsystem support (test version) • Some testing time scheduled in February √ LBT Q1 2009 Engineering and Software Review
Additional Progress (Q1/2009) • MCSPU altered to work with new DSP slewing algorithm • Auto-unwrap feature added at the beginning of a slew in azimuth • Sequence numbers added to the polynomials to aid in debugging PCS/MCSPU problems • MCSPU log file management has been changed to retain all log files • MCSPU software is ready for DGR • Ordered new elevation encoder tape LBT Q1 2009 Engineering and Software Review
Open Issues • Technical • Encoder reset is not sufficiently reliable (Hardware) • Drive startup is not reliable (TPLC) • ELFR motor encoder is unreliable • Azimuth tracking performance is poor at certain speeds • A lot of cleanup / development is required before commissioning • Schedule • Telescope time is very competitive • Financial • Significant upgrades are unfunded for this year • Resource • Very limited Engineering / Software resources for further development LBT Q1 2009 Engineering and Software Review
Planning (Q2/2009) Continue testing new version of the DSP code as telescope time becomes available Update Azimuth tuning Change encoder initialization routines to utilized the absolute encoders Install elevation encoder tape (Q3+) LBT Q1 2009 Engineering and Software Review
